Focused on Kingdom, Family, and Community.

Welcome to the heart of New Orleans, where faith intersects with vibrant culture and a strong sense of community. At Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church No. 2, led by Pastor Nigel Thompson Sr., we embody the spirit of love, service, and devotion. Nestled in the diverse fabric of this historic city, our church stands as a beacon of hope and fellowship.

Our History:

Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church #2 was established on October 22, 1943, in New Orleans, Louisiana, by a group of eighteen pioneers led by the late Reverend Frank F. Johnson. Our founding members were driven by a deep love for God and a desire to spread the teachings of the gospel. The first worship services were held in a humble building on Fourth Street, where the Holy Spirit filled the hearts of our members with peace, love, and happiness.

Under Reverend Johnson’s leadership, the church began to grow and flourish. The congregation soon outgrew the original space and moved to a new location on Magnolia Street in 1947. This move marked the beginning of a period of growth and expansion, both in terms of membership and ministry.

Leadership and Growth

In 1967, Reverend Dan Barnes was elected as our pastor, leading the church for sixteen years. During his tenure, several new ministries were established, including usher ministries, a junior deacon ministry, and a special events committee. These initiatives helped strengthen the church’s community presence and enhance its worship experience.

In 1984, Reverend Sam J. Johnson became our pastor, guiding the church into a new era of spiritual and numerical growth. Under his leadership, the church expanded its educational and outreach programs, including the Good News Bible Club for youth, Vacation Bible School, and various Bible study classes. The church also acquired additional properties to support its mission and accommodate its growing congregation.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, causing significant damage to our sanctuary and scattering our members across the country. Despite these challenges, our congregation demonstrated resilience and faith, continuing to worship and serve God in Baton Rouge until we could return home. We resumed services at our newly renovated sanctuary on Jackson Avenue in 2006, and our church continued to thrive and grow.

The members were scattered throughout the United States. Many relocated to Baton Rouge, St. Francisville, Zachary and other parts of Louisiana. On September 18, 2005, due to the kindness and generosity of the Officers and Members of the Greater Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, in Baton Rouge, LA, the church was able to resume services. We shall forever be indebted to that congregation.

On Christmas Day 2005, the Lord allowed us to return back to the city and resume worship service at the newly renovated Johnson & Barnes Community Center. God is great and greatly to be praised. He allowed this congregation to weather the storm and come out victorious. On October 15, 2006, we resumed services at our present location.

In September of 2010, with the help and guidance of God, we were able to purchase property located at 2126 Clara Street and in 2015, 2017-19 Jackson Avenue. To God be the glory for what He has done for our congregation.

In 2017, we are sad to report that the Johnson-Barnes Community Center was destroyed by fire.

In October 2021, we were able to burn the note on our sanctuary. In January 2022, Rev. Johnson announced that he was retiring and recommended to the congregation that Rev. Nigel Thompson be the next Pastor. The congregation voted on his recommendation on Sunday, February 14, 2022 and Rev. Thompson was elected as pastor. On June 26,2022, Rev. Nigel C. Thompson was installed as Pastor of Corinthian MBC#2
